This incredible black granite box bears the red oc

This incredible black granite box bears the red ochre 'quarry marks' of the workers who destroyed this box in an effort to recycle the amazing smooth finished granite for their own purposes. One of thousands of examples of ancient vandalism, as inherited pieces that could no longer be reproduced were slowly absorbed and claimed by much later generations.
This piece is on Elephantine Island, about 20 ft from the Naos in my last post.

Inside Khentkaus.. Perhaps the first known female pharaoh, there is argument whether this structure was a pyramid or a mastaba. Often referred to as the 'pyramid of Khentkaus' it doesn't make the official pyramid count of the plateau. All that remains now is the bedrock mound with its scooped striations for the courses of stones to interlock with, and an entrance on the SE corner closed with a gate and padlock.

A beautiful Tefnut in basalt at Alexandria with Pompey's Pillar in the background. Tefnut, sister of Shu, in part embodies water, and so we see here the hole perfectly drilled, through which the water would have flowed. Even Tefnut's name, meaning spittle of Nut, the sky ntr, refers to water.
